Surrogate's Court
The Hudson County Surrogate’s Court is committed to assisting residents with vital legal matters concerning estates and families. Our primary duties include probating Wills and formalizing the appointment of estate administrators when individuals pass away without one.
Core Responsibilities
We provide essential support and review for all necessary documentation in cases of adoption and the establishment of adult guardianships. Furthermore, the Court is responsible for scheduling adoption proceedings and managing the calendar for Superior Court Probate Part case hearings. Our archives house public records, with some documents dating back to the 1800s.
Our Commitment to Accessibility and Service
This office plays a role in the lives of nearly every resident of Hudson County. We are dedicated to ensuring that for every interaction—from the processes you undertake and the forms you complete to the questions you pose—you receive accessible, approachable, and accurate information.
